CPR Classes: A Preview of What You Will Learn

If you are thinking of signing up for CPR classes in St Paul, you might be wondering what you will learn, especially if this is your first time taking a class like this. Here is a quick preview of some of what you will learn.

CPR classes will teach you how to potentially keep a person alive until EMTs or other emergency health care professionals arrive. CPR classes will not teach you how to restart a person’s heart. Instead, you will learn how to keep the person’s blood flowing through his or her body until his or her heart can be restarted by trained professionals.

You will also be taught how to recognize situations where CPR is an appropriate response as compared to times when you should not administer it. You will also be taught how to use an automatic external defibrillator (AED).

Also, when you take a CPR class, you will be taught the difference between performing CPR on an adult vs. on a child or baby. However, sometimes, child and infant CPR is taught in a separate class. There are a variety of CPR classes offered too, so finding one that suits your needs should be pretty easy to do!

You will then learn various CPR techniques, like chest compressions and mouth-to-mouth resuscitation, among others. You might even learn some interesting statistics about CPR and CPR classes, such as the fact that only 15 percent to 30 percent of people experiencing cardiac arrest receive CPR from a bystander (according to national statistics). Knowing what to do when someone goes into cardiac arrest or has another life-threatening health problem could literally mean the difference between life and death for that person.
